From 30th June 2021 we are no longer providing cover for Breakdown Assistance on our website.

We will keep track of the demand for this cover and may reintroduce it in the future. Policies purchased before 30th June 2021 aren't affected and your cover will carry on until your policy expires.

Our Breakdown cover for Ireland has been designed to help get you moving again if your vehicle breaks down more than 1.5km away from your home address.

We can provide you with breakdown assistance across Ireland and Northern Ireland if your vehicle is immobilised due to any of the following:

  • An electrical or mechanical breakdown
  • Tyre punctures
  • A lack of fuel
  • A vehicle fire or theft

If your car has broken down or won’t start, simply call us and we’ll arrange for roadside assistance. We will pay for 60 minutes of labour and, if we’re unable to repair your vehicle in this time, we will arrange and pay for local recovery. This includes arranging and paying for the costs of taking you, your vehicle and up to seven passengers to the nearest suitable garage within a 40-kilometre radius.

As part of your Allianz breakdown policy, you’ll also receive up to 5 call outs per year, so there’s no need to worry if your vehicle breaks down again later in the policy year.

If you don’t have Breakdown cover, and your car breaks down or doesn’t start, then the process of getting it fixed and back on the road can be both time consuming and expensive. After all, you're likely to be stranded by the roadside for several hours. This means you could be late for work, you could miss an important meeting, or you could be forced to delay a family trip.

In addition to this, you’ll have to try and locate a repairer while you’re stood at the roadside. If it can’t be fixed there and then, the bill for getting your car towed to a garage and repaired could potentially cost you hundreds of euros.

But, when you take out our Breakdown cover for Ireland, you can relax knowing that, if the worst happens, you’re protected. When you require roadside assistance, you can call us on 1800 882560 or 00353 1 6373658 (our lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). After supplying us with a few basic details, we’ll ensure that an expert technician is with you as soon as possible.

Our technician will then spend the next 60 minutes attempting to repair and remobilise your vehicle. If this isn’t possible, we’ll arrange for you, your car and up to seven passengers to be taken to the nearest suitable garage.

If your vehicle is at the roadside and repairs take longer than an hour, we will arrange and pay for the costs of taking you, the vehicle and up to seven passengers to the nearest suitable garage (within a 40 kilometre radius). The garage can then repair and remobilise your vehicle, so you can get moving again.

Unfortunately, our Ireland Breakdown cover does not include home assistance. But, if you’d like home assistance too, then take a look at our Ireland Breakdown Cover Plus policy, which comes with this.

If you’d like your area of cover to extend further than Ireland, then take a look at our Ireland & UK Breakdown cover and European Breakdown cover policies.

At Allianz, we understand that you want breakdown cover that provides you with peace of mind and keeps you protected throughout the policy year. That’s why our Breakdown cover for Ireland offers up to 5 call outs per year as standard.

This means that, when you take out our Breakdown cover for Ireland, you don’t need to worry about breaking down more than once. Just call us again and we’ll be out to help you as quickly as we can.

If your car is over 10 years old, then you’ll still be able to take out our Breakdown cover for Ireland, because our Breakdown cover can be used to protect cars that are 15 years old or less. Sadly, if your car is over 15 years old, we will not be able to provide you with cover.

Similarly, if you drive a light commercial vehicle such as a van, then the maximum age is 10 years.

Sadly, there is a small but limited chance that adverse weather conditions may make it impossible for us to attend to your vehicle. For example, high winds, snow, ice or floods can make it impracticable for us to provide roadside assistance.

If adverse weather conditions prevent us from fixing your vehicle at the roadside, we’ll ensure that you and your passengers are taken to a place of safety. Once you’re safe and the weather conditions have subsided, we’ll return at a later date to repair or recove

From your home to the Scottish Highlands, our Ireland and UK Breakdown cover will help you get to where you need to be in the event of a breakdown.
Whether you’re driving to a holiday home in France or taking a road trip through Europe, don’t leave home without getting the cover you need. Our European travel insurance is suitable for most travellers, and can be purchased for one-off or multiple trips, as well as backpacking experiences across the continent.
With our Ireland Breakdown Cover Plus policies, you’re covered everywhere in Ireland, including your home address. From your driveway to the hard shoulder and those winding country roads, we’ll be there for you when you need us.
